Shifting soils crack foundations.
The Midwest is noted for having soil with high clay content. This soil, also known as expansive soil, causes major financial losses every year both in expensive home repairs and decreased resale values. The damage caused by shifting soil in the Midwest is second only to termite damage in total cost. Unstable soil conditions can lead to broken house foundations, sticking doors and windows, and cracked walls. Expansive soil can shrink and swell much as 30% when it is exposed to seasonal changes in rainfall and temperature. During wet winter months, clay soil soaks up moisture and expands. In hot summer months, it is baked by the sun and shrinks back. Any movement greater than 5% can cause structural damage. May Development Co., Inc. can help stabilize your home or building from these shifting soils. We use one of the most highly regarded piering methods available
Our foundation repair methods have proven track records of success and we're proud to talk about them!
Because we've been in the foundation repair business since 1956, May Development Co., Inc. knows which materials work and which don't meet the proper standards for waterproofing and stabilization. We use materials and methods that meet our strict standards of performance yet are cost efficient for our customers
May Company piers.
The May Co. Piering method is a method that produces the measured strength to help stop settling. Each pier is installed to the designed load-bearing strength needed to help support the weight above it. May's steel piers are driven down (sometimes as much as 80 feet) through the earth until they reach the desired strength. They can support or lift your house from inside or out and are installed by trained mechanics. May's Piering method needs only 2 feet x 2 1/2 feet of floor space next to the foundation to do the job. The work is done quietly and is portable. Therefore, the May Piering method will not tear up your lawn or make tracks in your yard. It also will not deteriorate because it is encased in concrete. Each May Pier takes about 4 hours to install.
